Lisa Selman-Holman, JD, BSN, RN, HCS-D, COS-C, HCS-O AHIMA Approved ICD-10 Trainer & Ambassador, Owner
Lisa started her own home care and hospice consulting company, Selman-Holman & Associates, LLC, in 2004. In 2008, Lisa recognized the need for quality home care coding by true experts in the home health and hospice field and started Coding Done Right or CoDR (pronounced coder). Lisa is a 28-year veteran of home care as an RN. She has experience as a field nurse, director and executive with home and hospice agencies, both large and small. Soon after graduating from University of Houston with her law degree she took a position as the Director of Regulatory Affairs for the Texas Association for Home Care where she advocated for home care agencies and acted as a regulatory resource. She has been involved in accreditation surveys, acquisitions and many regulatory crises with state survey agencies and the Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs), including termination proceedings and investigations. Part of her responsibilities have included legal and risk management, acting as Compliance Officer, development of policies and forms, survey compliance, appeals of Medicare denials, writing Corrective Action Plans, start-ups of parent and branch agencies, consulting with agencies on a variety of subjects and education of staff. Lisa has been teaching home care professionals how to code since 1999. Lisa is certified as a Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D) and is certified in OASIS competency, COS-C. She is the consulting editor to Eli Research's Home Health ICD-10 Alert. She is a frequent contributor to other home care periodicals. She is the National Chair of the Board of Medical Specialty Coding (BMSC) specialty advisory board on home health coding and OASIS and is a BMSC approved instructor for the HCS-D exam. She has participated on the OASIS Certificate and Competency Board on the Exam Review Task Force. She is an active member of the Texas Association for Home Care and frequently serves on regulatory task forces. She also has participated with the Texas Medical Foundation's Quality Improvement Organization State Home Health Coalition for OBQI. While Lisa is well known for her education on coding, Lisa has wide expertise in home care and hospice issues.
Teresa Northcutt, RN, HCS-D, COS-C
Teresa joins Selman-Holman & Associates CoDR from Primaris, the Quality Improvement Organization for Missouri. She has presented on-site training for home health agency clinical staff on OASIS assessment and coding, focusing on customized clinical education programs and the practical application of guidelines by field staff. In addition, she has provided educational programs on agency communications and processes, quality outcome improvement, and care transitions for regional and state conferences. Certified in OASIS competency (COS-C) and as a Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D), Teresa brings comprehensive and contemporary knowledge of home care and quality improvement methods. Teresa has had experience as Clinical Services and QI/Education manager with home health agencies (independent, hospital-based, and county health dept.), and as a hospital resource nurse, patient educator, and quality improvement facilitator. She received her BSN from St. Louis University. Teresa is a Quality Manager for CoDR, performing ongoing quality audits on all the coders to assure that the premier services offered by CoDR remain outstanding.
Matt Santangelo RN, BSN, HSC-D, COS-C
An RN since 1996, Matt brings diverse experience to Selman Holman & Associates CoDR. Matt has 9 years of pediatric oncology nursing experience and is a seven-year veteran of the home health industry. His home health experience includes field nursing, intake, QA/QI, nursing supervision, performance improvement, DON, nursing education, and home health coding. Matt has been certified in home health coding with the Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D) certificate since 2007. He is additionally a Certified OASIS Specialist-Clinical (COS-C). Matt holds a specialty certificate as a CHAP certified consultant as well, bringing additional specialty experience to the CoDR team. Matt has achieved 100 percent accuracy in his coding and is now a Quality Manager for CoDR.
Linda Edwards, RN, HCS-D, COS-C
Linda is an 18-year veteran of home care as a Registered Nurse. She has experience as a field nurse, QAPI coordinator, director, and administrator, with home health agencies, both large and small. She has 19 years critical care experience prior to going into home health. She holds an Associates Degree in Nursing from Midwestern State University. She is currently a Consultant with Selman-Holman & Associates, and works closely with home health and hospice agencies nationally in providing consulting services, coding services, survey compliance, managing medical reviews and appeals of Medicare denials, writing Corrective Action Plans, and QAPI audits. Linda is certified as a Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D) and is certified in OASIS competency, COS-C.
J’non Griffin, RN, COS-C, HCS-D, BCHH-C, AHIMA Approved ICD-10 Trainer & Ambassador
J’non Griffin is a 26 year veteran of home care as an RN. She received her Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration in 2005. She has experience as a field nurse, director and executive with home health and hospice agencies, both large and small. She has served as Director of Staff Development and Appeals for home health and hospice agencies. She has taken part in mock surveys for agencies, and prepared agencies for accreditation. She has been directly involved in accreditation surveys, acquisitions and resolving regulatory crises with state survey agencies and the intermediary. As Regional Director of Operations for a home care company, J’non was ultimately responsible for the operations of several branch agencies. She completed billing audits, supervised personnel, handled employment issues and trained managers. Part of her responsibilities have included risk management, acting as Compliance Officer, development of policies and forms, survey compliance, appeals of Medicare denials, writing Corrective Action Plans, start-ups of parent and branch agencies, consulting with agencies on a variety of subjects and education of staff. J’non is certified as a Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D), Board Certified Home Health-Coding (BCHH-C), Certified in OASIS competency, COS-C, and is an AHIMA approved ICD-10CM trainer/ambassador. She is also a wound care certified (WCC) practitioner through WCEI. J’non is on the board of Home Care Directions, and is a frequent contributor, along with an expert on Beacon’s Ask an Expert Panel. She has published 2 books through HcPro, titled “The Home Health Conditions of Participation and Interpretive Guidelines, and “The Beacon Guide to Medicare Service Delivery.” J’non has also been a contributor to the Decision Health Publication, The Diagnosis Coding Pro, Eli’s Newsletter, and will be presenting at the 2013 Coding Summit.
Joe Balaszi, HCS-D, BCHH-C
With a diverse background in the coding industry, Joe comes to Selman-Holman & Associates CoDR with 4 years experience coding in healthcare and both the Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D) certification, as well as the Board Certified Home Health Coder (BCHH-C) certificate. His experience includes several years coding in ambulatory healthcare settings, including pain management settings, as well as several years coding in the home health care setting more recently.
Kelley Underwood, HCS-D
A native of Houston, Texas and graduate of the University of Texas, Kelley has over 10 years of experience in the home health industry. Kelley’s experience includes holding a number of roles within the home health field, with her specialty as home health coding. Kelley became a certified coder in 2008 and has independently managed the coding for high volume agencies, including those with a census of over 500. Kelly has additionally served as a coding advisor for smaller home health agencies. Kelley has been providing quality coding services for Selman-Holman & Associates CoDR since 2010.
Sonia Guillen, BSN, HCS-D, HCS-O
Sonia Guillen holds a Bachelors in Science in Nursing from The University of Texas Pan American. She is a certified Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D), Homecare Clinical Specialist-Oasis (HCS-O). She has worked for 5 years as a Director for Adult Day Care and has over 8 years of experience in Home Health. She has extensive experience in providing clinical, compliance, and OASIS education to nursing staff. Sonia has additional home health experience as an administrator and QA Director in the home health industry. She brings a wealth of experience and quality to her work with Selman-Holman & Associates CoDR.
Lori Brancleone, RN, HCS-D, COS-C, AHIMA Approved ICD-10 Trainer
Lori is a 19 year veteran of home health care as a Registered Nurse. Her experience includes: field RN, home care liaison, quality assurance nurse, Director of Quality Assurance, Director of Nursing, and National Clinical Director. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associate Degree in Nursing from St. Clair Community College. Lori has worked with Selman-Holman since 2010 completing due diligence audits, responding to ADRs and coding, in between winning dog shows with her beautiful Siberian Huskies, Addison, Jasper, Reece and Trigbe.
Toni H. Beasley, RN, HCS-D, COS-C, BCHH-C
Toni has been a nurse for 27 years and in home care for 20 years. She has been HCS-D certified since 2009 and also certified in OASIS with the COS-C credential. She’s held various positions within home health from field nurse, intake coordinator, Nursing supervisor, Infusion Team Supervisor, to OASIS/Coding Care Coordinator. She’s a previous ACLS instructor, Chemotherapy Certified, and PICC line insertion certified. Toni hails from Alabama where she worked with the Alabama Department of Public Health as their OASIS/Coding Coordinator before beginning work with CoDR in November 2013.
